Cocoon by Sealy Mattress Review 2023: Ranked #1 for no noise. (Click here to see all the ANS Best Mattress Award Winners)

There are many huge positives for the Cocoon by Sealy Mattress. The most evident one is that this mattress has a parent company, Sealy, that is well known and has a great reputation for high quality. Another enormous selling point for this mattress is that it is manufactured in-house. This is fantastic because the Company can monitor how the mattress is being made and what is going into it. Another strong positive the Cocoon by Sealy has is two different firmness options and two different cover options. That means four total options – Classic Soft, Classic Firm, Chill Soft, and Chill Firm. And the Chill is yet another positive. It’s cover is infused with a proprietary “Phase Change Material.” This material absorbs and dissipates heat for a refreshing, cool to the touch surface.

Other notable strong points include that the Cocoon by Sealy mattress is easy to move and priced lower than almost all of its competitors. Other than being a great value, this mattress has strong ratings in the essential categories of comfort, durability, and coolness.  The Cocoon mattresses also rate well with other attributes including limited motion transfer, just the right amount of sinkage, good edge support, and especially very little noise.

Please see below a summary of all positives and negatives, a company created snippet and snapshot, general information, and finally ratings using the 20 major considerations.

Snippet:

A better night’s sleep without leaving the house. Get a trusted Sealy quality mattress delivered to your door. Choose either the Classic Mattress with the premium stretch-knit fabric cover or the Chill Mattress with the same cover but also infused with a proprietary “Phase Change Material.”

Snapshot:

Choose from two options—soft, our best selling feel, or firm. The difference between soft and firm is how much you sink into the bed. Soft feels like you’re “in the bed,”  while firm has an “on the bed” feeling. The COCOON SOFT is perfect for those who like to be supported by their bed, but with a cushioned feel. Choose Soft if you fall in the soft to medium range, and prefer a plusher feel. The COCOON FIRM is great for those who require sturdy support from their bed, with a robust feel. Choose Firm if you fall in the firm range, and prefer a denser feel.

Premium Memory Foam Mattress Coupled with Cooling Technology:

1. COOLING TECHNOLOGY

Our premium stretch-knit cover is infused with a proprietary “Phase Change Material” that absorbs and dissipates heat for a refreshing, cool to the touch surface.

2. PERFECT FIT MEMORY FOAM

Our high-quality memory foam adapts to your body size, shape and sleep position to ensure a great sleep no matter which feel is right for you.

3. PERSONALIZED COMFORT

Choose our soft layer for a cozier, more “in-the-bed” feel. Choose our firm layer for a sturdier, “on-the-bed” feel.

4. ESSENTIAL SUPPORT FOAM

Engineered to be highly durable and resilient. We’ve tested it, and we know it bounces back every time.

Top 20 ConsiderationsRatingDetail
Essentials:
1Good Value?94.93%The Cocoon Mattress is an on-line, more affordable memory foam option than the Tempur Pedic brands sold in stores, but still with that great Tempur Pedic name and reputation for quality. Offering two firmness options and two cover options, the Cocoon Mattress provides a great memory foam feel with cutting edge cooling technology and superior materials, all at a great price. Unlike many of its competitors, the Cocoon Mattress is produced in house. This means that the Company can better monitor the manufacturing process and provide better quality products at a lower cost.
2Comfortable?94.86%The Cocoon Mattress gives customers two firmness options and two cover options. The Cocoon Soft, the more popular firmness option, hugs the sleeper, provides a plusher feel, and is best for people who like their mattress in the soft to medium range. The Cocoon Firm, the second firmness option, provides a more sturdy feel, a sensation of being on top of the mattress, and is best for people who like their mattress in the medium to firm range. The Cocoon Classic, the first cover option, has a durable, breathable, stretchy, soft-to-the-touch premium stretch-knit polyester and cotton cover. The Cocoon Chill, the second cover option, has the same qualities as the Classic Cover, but adds Phase Change Material (PCM) technology, a proprietary material that absorbs and dissipates heat. All mattresses have high-quality memory foam that adapts to a sleeper’s body size, shape and sleep position to ensure an Awesome Night Sleep. There is a definite, comfortable, memory foam, cradling feel that conforms well, disperses weight, and provides great pressure relief.
3Supportive?93.37%Below the the 2″ Comfort Layer of Perfect Fit Memory Foam are two layers of support foam for the Cocoon Soft and one layer for the Cocoon Firm. The transitional layer on the Cocoon Soft is made up of 2″ of poly foam and is designed to deliver pressure relief and spinal alignment as well as sufficiently support the body. The 6″ bottom layer (8″ on the Cocoon Firm) provides the foundation for the mattress and is engineered to be resilient and highly durable. Even though the comfort layer of memory foam is less dense than other mattresses (3 lbs/ft compared to 4 or 5lbs/ft), and the entire mattress is less thick than other mattresses (10″ compared to 11″ or 12″), the Cocoon mattress does fairly well at distributing weight, responding to the body, and offering the appropriate level of support to avoid back and other pain. Larger or heavier sleepers may have more issues getting enough support.
4Durable / Quality Built?94.32%
130 years of expertise has gone into the Cocoon Mattress. As a mattress designed and manufactured by its Parent Company, Tempur Pedic – Sealy, it is backed by scientific research and crafted out of the highest quality materials. In fact, so much care was given in its development, that the Company designed and tested over 100 prototypes over a two-year time period to end up with a mattress in a box that stands up to Sealy’s standards. Their premium Perfect Fit Memory Foam and durable, highly resilient Essential Support Foam as well as the fact that the Company controls the entire production process, is evidence of this high quality. Although thinner, lighter, and less dense foam than other on-line mattresses, the high quality and durability of the Cocoon Mattress is backed up with a 10 year warranty.
5Sleep Cool?94.61%In order to combat the heat retention usually present with a memory foam mattress, the Cocoon Classic has a premium, stretch-knit fabric cover that’s thin and breathable. To make the mattress even cooler, for an extra $150, an individual can purchase the Cocoon Chill instead of the Classic. The Cocoon Chill has the same breathable cover, but it is infused with a proprietary “Phase Change Material” (PCM). Per the Company’s website, this PCM absorbs and dissipates heat for a refreshing, cool to the touch surface. The PCM technology acts as a thermostat, cooling the body down in case of any undesirable heat. While some sleepers have found that the Cocoon Classic does sleep warm, they have not found this as much with the Cocoon Chill.
6Warranty? 94.19%The Cocoon mattress is covered by a 10 Year Full Replacement Limited Warranty. Any defects including any indentations of 1” or deeper will be replaced or repaired for the initial purchaser of the product.
7Return Policy?95.66%Purchasers can sleep easy and have an Awesome Night Sleep knowing that the Cocoon mattress has a trial period of 100 nights. If purchasers are unhappy with the mattress, they can either exchange it once or return it for a full refund. If exchanged and the purchasers still are not happy, they can still return it for a full refund, as long as the return is done within the 100 nights. Returning the mattress might entail dropping it off for donation or disposal.
Company:
8Customer Service?94.03%Similar to other major mattress manufacturers, Sealy, the parent company of Cocoon, fairs average in this category.
9Good Reputation?93.55%Sealy, a subsidiary of Tempur Pedic and the Parent Company of Cocoon, has been in business since 1881 and has a longstanding excellent reputation. Even though Cocoon was only started in 2016, with Sealy and Tempur Pedic, the combined company is known as the largest, the industry leader and over the years, the best manufacturer of mattresses. There expertise and in house manufacturing capabilities are second to none. Even though the combined company has an A+ BBB rating, overall customer satisfaction is only average. Notwithstanding, Oprah Winfrey is a huge supporter of Cocoon. The Cocoon Mattress was featured on Oprah’s Favorite Things list for 2016.
10Socially Good?91.81%Cocoon mattresses are certified by the CertiPUR-US® program. They are thoroughly tested using proprietary and patented methods to ensure flame resistance and safety. Cocoon donates returned mattresses to charity.
Attributes:
11Motion Transfer / No Sinkage?95.38%The 2″ top comfort layer of Perfect Fit Memory Foam keeps motion transfer to a minimum. Thus when one sleeper moves during the night, the other is not disturbed. Conversely, sleepers do feel some sinkage with the Cocoon Mattress. There is a greater sensation of sinking with the Cocoon Soft as sleepers feels like they’re “in the bed,” rather than with the Cocoon Firm where they feel more like they are “on the bed.” Still, with both the Soft and Firm, the sinkage is not so severe as to make sleepers feel “trapped in the mattress.” As expected, heavier sleepers are more likely to experience both motion transfer and sinkage.
12Edge Support?91.18%As is common with almost all foam beds, the Cocoon mattress lacks great edge support. Though better than some main on-line competitors, there is still a sinking feeling especially when sleepers sit on the edge.
13Bouncy?94.02%Some bounce. With only 2″ of memory foam before sleepers reach the transition or base support layer, there is less sinkage compared to some competitor’s memory foam mattresses.
14Noisy?96.69%Similar to other all foam mattresses, the Cocoon mattress is quiet.
15Off-Gassing?93.19%While not overwhelming, customers can expect a small amount of off-gassing with the Cocoon. As is common with many mattresses compressed in a box, there may be a slight smell upon unboxing. Even so, the smell is normal and disappears almost right away, but for sure within a week.
16Easy to Handle / Break In / Maintain?95.22%Even though sleepers can sleep on the Cocoon mattress almost immediately after unboxing, it is best to wait a day before trying it out. The Cocoon website recommends sleeping on it for 30 nights in order to get used to it, before any returns. Even so, the mattress can be returned at any time during the first 100 nights. The cover is not meant to be removed or washed, so it is recommended to utilize a mattress protector to keep the mattress clean. Because the mattress weighs less than competitor’s mattresses, it is easier to move around, even thouigh there are no handles. Like other memory foam mattresses, it should not be flipped, but rather rotated head to foot every six months.
Sleeper Type:
17Good for Backs?92.94%Both the Cocoon Soft and Cocoon Firm impart enough support to alleviate back and other pains. While the Cocoon Soft offers great spinal alignment and pressure relief, the Cocoon Firm provides even more support. Back sleepers will enjoy both mattresses as they prefer little sinkage, even distribution, and a good amount of support.
18Good for Side Sleep?94.77%Side sleepers will enjoy the Cocoon Soft. They will like the contouring, the pressure point relief, and the less firm feel.
19Good for Stomach Sleep?95.33%Stomach sleepers will prefer the Cocoon Firm. They will enjoy the additional support, the good amount of conformity, and the very little sinkage.
20Good for Larger Sleepers?93.81%Most of the time, the Cocoon Firm will be a better choice for larger people than the Cocoon Soft. It will provide less sinkage and the added support larger people desire. Even so, because both the Soft and Firm weigh less, are thinner, and have less dense foam than many other options, there might be better mattresses for larger people than the Cocoon.
